Why does the Earth circle the Sun?

When the Sun was formed, excess matter condensed to form proto planets. This occurs because when a star is born, a cloud of excess matter is expelled with great force in all directions, then is pulled back towards the fledgling star. This causes the dust to swirl around the star, and pockets where the gas has greater density condense to form proto-planets. One such proto-planet eventually became our Earth. The Earth was already circling the Sun when it was formed.

The motion of the Earth around the Sun is very important, as it is what keeps the Earth from falling into the Sun. The Earth circles around the Sun in an elliptical orbit because of the delicate balance between the Sun’s gravitational pull and the speed of the Earth’s motion around the Sun.
