Maine
Planetariums, Observatories, and Star Clubs
The best place to view the night sky in person
is behind a telescope like the one at the Jordan
Observatory, Maine’s only public observatory.
If you don't want to brave the elements, planetariums
offer a more comfortable alternative. Using computerized projectors,
video cameras, and curved screens, these fascinating places
recreate the night sky on an indoor ceiling. They allow stargazers
to focus on particular aspects of the sky and reporduce events,
like the passage of comets or planetary conjunctions.
Astronomy clubs are great resources
for information, equipment advice, and to meet other people
who are interested in the sky.
